If there was a textbook whelping - this was it! Well...except that Ghost decided not to wait for her helper that was on an overnight flight trying to get to her as fast as possible! The good news is Ghost's people caught her temperature drop so in addition to there extensive prep completed prior to whelping, we all had a chat and a quick crash course just in case the pups starting coming before help had arrived. A good thing too because as I was driving, Jayne sent photos of pups 1 and 2 before I got there!
As mentioned, Ghost is an amazing Mom and had all 7 pups in just under 5 hours (all placentas accounted for, pups great weights and vigorous eaters immediately). Papa Baker, "Uncle" Canon, and Maine Coon Colby Jack all were curious, but cautious of these new little noisemakers. No problem for us though because that meant more snuggle time! Ghost didn't get the memo that mama dogs clean up pee AND poo, but eventually caught on.
