Week 3 - 2/11/2024

Week 3 of adorable puppies is here! These guys and gals are soooo sweet, cute and fun this week! Their eyes and ears have all opened and they interact with us so much more now that they can see who we are. :) It’s such a special feeling when you see them awake and go over to play with them, and they seem really excited to see you and wobble walk or attempt to pounce their way over to you. It’s hilarious as well as sweet. They enjoy climbing on our legs and attempting to nibble our fingers or clothes (we try to not encourage this even though they don’t have their teeth yet, because we know what it’s like once their teeth do come in!).

Momo has been turning up the kissing meter! All Chinooks love to give kisses, but there is usually one that stands out as the biggest kisser of them all, and Momo takes that title. She will put her paws on my tummy attempting to climb up me, so I pick her up in my arms and she will proceed to kiss me until there’s no saliva left! And the best part is that it doesn’t end in puppy nibbles! It seems overall this litter is good about not nibbling on our faces after we get puppy kisses and they seem less noisy overall. We tossed some toys in their pen and we haven’t gotten much play time with them yet as they'd rather just shove their siblings nose into their mouth and “chew” on that! LOL

We started to introduce sounds this week to get them used to the loud noises. The purpose is that even if they startle at the noise, nothing bad happened to them, so they learn that the noise doesn’t bring anything bad or hurt them. We’ve introduced pans banging, vacuum cleaner, door knocking/doorbell, thunder, sirens and fireworks. Oh and lots of loud children… because they’re just loud with everything they do! We will continue to do this for the remaining weeks as well.

Momo is our resident kisser and Bumi and Zuko seem to be the best players! Bumi likes to be involved in any play that’s happening and Zuko really enjoys playing with us. He’ll just leave his mouth open for you to come over so he can eat you. But of course we don’t let him eat us! Katara is a very confident pup and is a real sweetheart. She loves being held and gives you just a kiss or two to show her appreciation. Iroh, Sokka and Momo love laying on their backs and have you tickle their tummies! One play session I think Sokka was on his back the entire time! Aang is our solid middle of the road pup. He can be super playful or super contemplative.

Aelin continues to be SUPER MOM! She spends more time with the pups other than just feeding, so they don’t only associate her with food. Our other girls would only go in the whelping box to feed them and then immediately leave, so the pups didn’t see them as anything else but meal time. Since Aelin feeds them but sometimes stays in there, they’ve then either snuggled up to her to sleep, or play with her. One day I saw a pup feeding and two on her back playing and two trying to eat her back paw. It was super adorable! And this is where the less noise comes in. Since the sight of mom doesn’t bring out the major squeals, we’re not getting as much noise which is always nice (there are still some squeals but much less).

On Sunday we took the whelping box down and set up their indoor pen. See our cool time-elapsed video we did with our new camera to show the process. It’s only 30 seconds (for a 45 min process) so check it out. It’s hilarious showing how much our big dogs want to “help” (aka get in the way) and pop in and out while we’re trying to get things done! Be sure to stick around as week 4 brings even more cuteness and the next stage of playing outside, eating solid food, and playing more with toys!

P.S. Don’t mind my Taylor Swift obsession! I promise I own more clothing than TSwift!
