Week 4 - 12/30/2018

Halfway through the Sweethearts’ journey with us! Week 4 brought their introduction to several new surfaces, including 80’s-era kitchen linoleum, as well as their first “meals” of goat's milk. These pups have been champion eaters from Day One, and they went at the goat's milk without hesitation and minimal foot-downs (except for Dolce, who has a fantastic faceplant captured on our Facebook page’s video).

The pups are having shorter and less frequent nursing sessions with Mama Kiki. They are sleeping longer and spending more time out of their box, playing with their toys and each other. Their teeth have grown in, and they are starting to enjoy the beginnings of tug-of-war-style play, pulling on the edges of their blankets and shaking their chew toys. They've been introduced to the sounds of the vacuum cleaner, lightning and thunder, fireworks and symphony orchestras – thanks to Spotify broadcasting alongside their pen as they snooze and play. Next up very soon – puppy mush/food!

The Sweethearts litter (as always in order of appearance):

Desert Sol Bec

Name Origin:

"kiss" Québécois

Sex:

Male

Weight:

6lb 14oz

About Bec:

Firstborn Bec remains the relatively “chill” dude when exploring and playing with his siblings or visitors. But he’s definitely still been his “Mama’s boy,” seeking her company for comfort and snuggles, in between his forays across the room and puppy wrestling matches. While he’s quiet when interacting with visitors and giving lots of licks and nibbles, he does whine when he gets tired, as he seeks out the perfect nook or cranny for a nap. He seems to like company/companionship the most, easily quieting down his whining once someone just sits with him to offer a lap or elbow crook upon which to rest his head.

Desert Sol Baci

Name Origin:

"kiss" in Italian

Sex:

Male

Weight:

6lb 2oz

About Baci:

This boy, unlike his brother, regularly gets the “zoomies” when playing and remains confident and curious throughout. He’s usually the first out of the box to play and explore, and then the first to flop down and declare himself done and ready for a nap. In between, he’s the instigator of wrestling matches and tugs-of-war, and is starting to take notice of our 2nd kitty, Astro(physics), following him around with great interest. True to his name, he eagerly dispenses kisses with vigor, and may be showing signs of his mom’s inability to “hold her licker.”

Desert Sol Dolce

Name Origin:

"sweet" Italian

Sex:

Female

Weight:

5lb 8oz

About Dolce:

This sweet girl has begun to show her mischievous side, and athletic ability, as she was the first to exit the whelping/weaning boxes in the middle of the night, which means she navigated the up-and-over of the half-sized door. Her nocturnal adventure came to an abrupt end as she climbed into a cardboard box filled with random items from which she couldn’t extricate herself. Her panicked screams woke us up to investigate and subsequently “rescue” her, and from there on out we installed the full-height door to the weaning pen.

Desert Sol Bisou

Name Origin:

"kiss" French

Sex:

Female

Weight:

6lb 1oz

About Bisou:

A visitor called Bisou “a real people person,” er, dog, as she is very friendly and happy to be up in (someone’s) arms. She and Baci seem to be the most similar when they get into the spirit of playtime, with frequent play-bowing and brief bursts of the “zoomies.” She’s also shown quite a bit of interest in Astro kitty, and can hold her own in wrestling with brother Baci, and has great balance between being social and independent, easily settling down and soothing herself to sleep in a matter of seconds.
