Week 5 - 1/6/2019

The start of Week 5 with the Sweethearts found them getting more space to play indoors and getting schooled by Mama Kiki in tug-o'-war and wrestlemania. They got some equal wrestling time in with Astro the kitty, who "cheated" by being able to fit his lithe body under the low coffee table and playing "peek-a-boo" and "sneak attack" from under there, much to the puppies' frustration.

Mornings after their puppy mush breakfast have been prime time for playing, since they've been sleeping longer (almost through the night!) and are ready to get their ya-ya's out. Baci in particular gets the puppy version of the "zoomies," briefly running zigzags across the room, taking too sharp of a cut and sliding (or rolling!) out of control. Highly entertaining!

At the end of the week, Tahoe got the first significant snowfall of the New Year...more than 8 inches on the deck right outside the Sweethearts' bedroom. The pups' first foray outside was at the beginning of this snowstorm, and they were completely unfazed when encountering the cold, white stuff for the first time. Careful sniffing and chewing of pine needles ensued, with Kiki trying to goad her pups into running back and forth across the deck, with only limited success. We'll report back next week on the pups' first powder morning!

The Sweethearts litter (as always in order of appearance):

Desert Sol Bec

Name Origin:

"kiss" Québécois

Sex:

Male

Weight:

9lb 6oz

About Bec:

Our big boy, Bec, has the sweetest demeanor, and one of those "peering into your soul" gazes that melts hearts. He's generally easygoing, except he hates car rides and lets us know with a fair amount of vocalization. (Maybe it's the lack of a view that he's whining about!) He is usually one of the last to go down for a nap, true to his nature of wanting company/companionship until the last possible moment -- perhaps he'll be the most social of them all, a true party animal.

Desert Sol Baci

Name Origin:

"kiss" in Italian

Sex:

Male

Weight:

8lb 10oz

About Baci:

Baci loves to play with his kitty brother, Astro, stalking him around the room and putting in some solid wrestling time. Truth be told, Baci loves to play with anyone who will give him the time of day. He starts off with his play bow, cranks into a few zoomies with slides and rolls, dares anyone to take him on in tug-o-war, and frequently pounces on his mama, siblings and visitors with pure joy and mischief. On the flip side, as soon as he gets tired, he quietly lays down and zonks out...within seconds.

Desert Sol Dolce

Name Origin:

"sweet" Italian

Sex:

Female

Weight:

7lb 3oz

About Dolce:

Last week, this athletic girl had to be rescued in the middle of the night after climbing out of and past her the weaning pen's half-door. This week, we came downstairs after hearing the puppies crying desperately in unison, only to find Kiki luxuriating outside the pen, nursing a single pup -- Dolce -- while the others remained "trapped" in the pen. Somehow she had vaulted /climbed over the full height of the pen walls; it's one time when I really wish we had a webcam to see just how she did it!

Desert Sol Bisou

Name Origin:

"kiss" French

Sex:

Female

Weight:

8lb 1oz

About Bisou:

Not to be outdone by her sister in the adventure department, this spunky girl learned to climb up our short, 2-step set of carpeted stairs, and bumped her way back down with ease. She enjoys stalking Astro kitty alongside brother Baci, who looks most like her -- they're the closest to twins that we've got!
